Each year, the department holds its retreat in the Philadelphia area. The purpose of the retreat is to facilitate interaction between faculty and students. During the retreat, Biology faculty, post-docs, and students give brief presentations on their research. All graduate students in their third year or above are expected to present a poster of their research project. A poster prize will be awarded to the best poster. All participants will have ample time to interact during the seminars, meals, and discussions. The Biology Department assumes the cost of the retreat for all first-year students.
All students on dissertation status (usually third year and above) are expected to present a poster at the Department Retreat. Exceptions are granted on a case-by-case basis. Posters can be printed by the Biomedical Library. Follow the guidelines for making a standard size poster, usually 36 inches by 48 inches. Turnaround time is typically one business day so plan ahead! The Biology Department will pay for the printing costs of a paper poster with regular one day service done by the library. Costs for fabric or rush posters or posters printed outside of the Department will be assumed by the student.
The Biology Department Retreat will be remote in 2020. Date and details will be sent to all students when available.
All students are expected to attend.
