Undergraduate Events

The Biology Department hosts a number of events throughout the academic year for current and prospective majors. The Department is also represented at all major events hosted by the College Office.

Major's Fair: Wednesday, October 23rd from 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 a.m.

Presented by the College Office, this event provides a showcase of the many different major Departments and Programs at Penn. Biology hosts a table at this event; representatives and current students from the Department will be available to answer questions from, and to provide information to prospective majors. 


Majors and More Dinner: Date and Time TBA [Mid-Fall]

Presented by the College Office, this event is focused mostly toward 1st and 2nd Year students and included conversation and a Q & A about the major over dinner, which is typically hosted by a College House. Faculty and student representatives from the Department provide information on what students can expect from the Penn Biology program and how best to prepare to declare the major.  


URM Fall Networking Mixer: October 15th, 5:30 p.m. in Levin 111 (1st Floor)

The URM Fall Networking Mixer provides and opportunity for underrepresented and minority students to engage with current Penn undergraduates, graduate students, and post-docs in a casual setting to learn more about life and research at Penn at all levels. Students are encouraged to participate in mentoring circles with those whom they connect. Dinner is provided.

Career Series Presentation: Date and Time TBA [November]

The Career Series Presentation introduces students to organizations external to Penn to help them begin to learn more about professional options outside of academia and medicine. Guest speakers are invited to present to students about their roles and company culture and students have the opportunity to ask questions and make lasting connections. Dinner is provided. 


Prospective Majors Gathering: Date and Time TBA [Early Spring]

The Prospective Majors Gathering is geared primarily towards students who are interested in declaring the Biology major, however current majors are also welcome to attend. This gathering provides students with an opportunity to meet and speak with faculty representatives from each of our 6 concentrations. Students will also be able to meet peers who are interested in the sciences. Dinner is provided. 

Quaker Days: Date and Time TBA [Mid-Late Spring]

Each Spring the College hosts Quaker Days, which provides an opportunity for newly admitted students and their families to explore campus and learn more about the University. The Biology Department participates in Quaker Days by hosting a table at College Palooza in addition to holding a Department Open House. The date, time, and location for both events is included in the information provided by Admissions to newly admitted students in the Spring.
